The film ‘V for Vendetta’ is a story about rebellion and rising up against oppressive government powers. Set in a bleak future London controlled by an all powerful fascist leader. With the help of tinted filters and mirroring of Nazi Germany ‘V for vendetta’ creates a dark, oppressed atmosphere for the viewer that clearly indicates something isn’t right. The extent of this uneasy feeling is revealed as the film progresses. The plot is focused on the flawed but righteous character V who seems to be the only person acting against the government until he saves Evey from thugs in a dark alley and discovers that he is not alone. To V nothing is a coincidence and a bond is formed between him and Evey that will result in them working together in an attempt to try bring down their oppressive government.

The setting of the text is very important in terms of displaying the changes that have occurred in this new world, Today London seems a city that is strongly democratic and to see the mirroring of London to Nazi Germany with the scenes of Marches, banners and rallies gives the viewer a feeling that a lot has changed. This was very influential for the genre of the text as it makes the reader sympathize with the struggle of the main characters by understanding that something must be changed in order for the London they know to be seen again.

For me and for most readers V was a character that showed mystery and charisma and was someone who was interesting and profoundly different from other characters in the story. Vs mask was possibly the reason for all the mystery behind him as it concealed his identity and thus his past. The whole film his identity remains a secret and it makes the audience anxious to know who he is, In the end the retaining of this secret shows us that he is not really a person but an idea and that; “Ideas are bulletproof”.
